ART APART
Art will not save our world, that is now clear to (most
of) us.
So what might be the deeper meaning of an event like
this?
In the first place, an exhibition should bring
pleasure, joy, desire…
But most visitors also like to learn something, wish to
be confronted with the unusual, which will grant them – for a brief
moment - the opportunity to surpass themselves. There is of course the
need for recognition, but the need to discover the new is also an
important factor.
Our contemporary existence is more and more focused on
‘usefulness’. Everything should serve a purpose and profitability has
become very important. Art cannot escape this. That
Luc Tuymans
produces truly brilliant paintings has lost its meaning – how much his
works are now making, that is truly important! That way, sometimes art
becomes no more than a gimmick; the creative process, the essence of
art, has been relegated to a miserly second place.
Artists thinking further than marketing are interesting
because they dare to explore the frontiers of their capabilities, dare
to fare their own particular course. They still take time for
reflection, pay special attention to their materials and finally give
their art its relevance to society.
Gallery Dialoog now has the honour and pleasure to
introduce you to eight of these ‘particular artists’.
Let yourself be seduced, visit this freshly restored
building, Hertstraat 28.
